September 5, 2013 (San Diego)– I will be the first to admit, I was surprised that Carl DeMaio did not drop his bid for Congress and try for the Mayor’s office once again. I suppose that recent votes in the House from Representative Scott Peters have alienated his liberal base to the point that the seat is actually pretty open.
So we are left with a race between Kevin Faulconer and Nathan Fletcher. Realistically these two are conservative politicians who will not continue, in my opinion, a return to the neighborhoods, or challenge the power elite in downtown.
Mike Aguirre has also announced a bid, but given how he left the office of the District Attorney it will be easy for these two to slime him as a non serious candidate. It is what it is. We are going “back to normal” in San Diego City Hall.
For the moment, we will keep trying to pull back at the onion, because this race is telling of the forces downtown.
