July 5, 2014 (San Diego) Both nations moved on, with Argentina doing such with a single goal scored by Angel di Maria on the 118 minute of play. This is the first time in sixteen years that the Argentinian team advances to the semi finals.
The second game, between the “Orange Machine” and the surprising “Ticos” ended up in a Penalty shootout and the surprising replacement of the Dutch goal keeper for the Penalty phase. It was simply good soccer on the field.
For those who love the game this last game was a pleasure to watch.
We now move to the Semi Final round that will set up the last two rounds. No European team has ever won the World Cup on American soil. With both the Germans and the Dutch qualifying, and the injury to Brazil’s star player Neymar, which might have ended his soccer career, the math changes. Perhaps on Tuesday the German team will have it easier against the home town favorite.
We will see, and at the very least, I hope it is a good, clean game.
