Jan 22, 2015 (COUNTY NEWS SERVICE) Many people make New Year’s resolutions to get in shape physically, but it’s also a great time to take a look at your financial situation and “bulk up” your personal finances.

Financial Wellness Wednesdays are a series of free seminars that cover everything from teens and spending money to retirement planning. The series is part of the County’s Live Well San Diego initiative to support healthy, safe and thriving communities and will take place at library branches across the county through March 30.

Local financial experts will offer free weekly instruction and counseling on the following topics:

  • building a better budget
  • rebuilding after a financial crisis
  • repaying student loans
  • teens and money
  • ten simple steps to financial success (also covers wills and trusts)
  • understanding credit reports and preventing identity theft and scams

There are over 50 presentations scheduled for library branches across the county, and many will have a bilingual presenter to answer questions in English and Spanish.

The series kicks off with an event featuring financial guru and radio host George Chamberlin at the San Marcos Community Center, 3 Civic Center Drive, on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. Chamberlin is the business editor for KOGO radio and the host of “Money in the Morning” and publishes a national financial newsletter “Investing for Rookies.”

The kickoff event is also free, but seating is limited and reservations are required and can be madeonline or by calling (877) 732-2848.

Financial Wellness Wednesdays are presented by the San Diego County Library and Health and Human Services Agency and the San Diego County Credit Union.
