Lockdown lifted

According to Captain Carl Jones, Naval Base San Diego, they have not found any evidence of an active shooter. “All reports like this are taken very seriously.” He also thanked all agencies that responded. He did not have a specific list of agencies but emphasized that there are constant drills and some agencies responded without prompting.

Captain Jose Acosta, commanding officer at Balboa Naval Hospital said that if you have any need of medical attention and you are a navy dependent, or personnel, to opt for civilian urgent care facilities or civilian hospitals. They are not letting patients in. He also emphasized that patient care in the hospital has not been interrupted.

Building 26 is a multi use facility that serves as barracks, retail, housing for wounded warriors as well as other uses. They have done a primary search and found no evidence of an active shooter. Jones also said that as early as December residents of that building had training in active shooter scenarios. This is “run, hide, fight” protocol.

They are also evacuating people in an orderly fashion, and clearing personnel as they remove them from the building.

Investigation still ongoing at NMCSD. All personnel continue to remain clear of NMCSD and follow all instructions of law enforcement personnel.

Lockdowns on the three San Diego Unified schools have been lifted.

Channel 7 is reporting that Officials say a single witness reportedly heard 3 shots.

Important Update from Naval Base San Diego

!UPDATE! For all concerned, the childcare facilities at NMC are currently secured. All children are accounted for and safe. The entire complex is secured, there is no access to the facilities at this time. We are monitoring this page and will continue to provide updates.

Schools on lockdown:

  • San Diego High
  • Garfield Middle School
  • Roosevelt Middle School

Naval Base Point Loma is on lockdown.

Correction San Diego PD was told their assistance was not needed. From twitter reports, not independently confirmed, we have anywhere from 1 to 3 shots fired outside Building 26.

Update: California Highway Patrol is engaged in traffic control and access to the base is now closed.

They have Chula Vista PD, CHP and Federal Agents on scene as well as San Diego PD, and more units are responding.

Jan 26, 2016 (San Diego) Balboa Medical Center has posted that there is a possible active shooter at Balboa Medical Center though their Facebook account

“**!ATTENTION!** An active shooter has just been been reported in building #26 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. All occupants are advised to run, hide or fight. All non-emergency response personnel are asked to stay away from the compound, located at 34800 Bob Wilson Drive, San Diego, CA 92134.”
