Feb 9, 2016 (San Diego) The local chapter of the National Action Network will be inaugurated by the National Action Network President Reverend Al Sharpton.
This is scheduled to happen on the 27th at the United Domestic Workers Union Hall. This is an event that local NAN President Reverend Shane Harris announced back late last year when the chapter started it’s work in San Diego.
Reverend Al Sharpton founded NAN in 1991, and it follows the principles laid out by Dr. Martin Luther King. It has an extensive criminal justice agenda to bring fairness to the system, witch is critical in an era of mass incarceration, The principles used are those of non violence direct action and civil disobedience.
NAN Is also very active in the areas of voter protection, jobs and corporate responsibility. There is also strong work to reduce gun violence. As well other initiatives, and you can learn more here.
The local chapter started work last year, and has already been very active in promoting the rights of renters. It is a local initiative to make sure people have dignified housing. Some campaigns have already had some success.
Reverend Shane Harris has also worked with the Otay Broncos football youth team, which ended up playing a championship game. This is just the beginning for them.
