County Chapter of Black Lives Matter in the Works

File Picture

May 16, 2016 (San Diego) In any organization there are growing pains. But San Diego is in the process of having a Black Lives Matter chapter, which is expected to be county wide. For the moment the organization is in the process of getting off the ground, some is still in in flux. Like the National Action Network, their goals in the county is to work on issues like mass incarceration and also the issue with the Lincoln Heights 3, students that are now going through the system after a brawl at the school and the deployment of a taser by an officer.

Since this will be a chapter under the aegis of the national organization, they have agreed to follow the principles of the national organization. These are as follows:

  • Diversity
  • Restorative Justice
  • Unapologetically Black
  • Globalism
  • Transgender Affirming
  • Collective Value
  • Black Women
  • Black Villages
  • Black Families
  • Empathy
  • Loving Engagement
  • Queer affirming
  • Intergenerational

You can find out more at the national site. This San Diego chapter is expected to be an open group, meaning open to allies of the African American community, and not just open to African Americans. The chapter is very young, and it is still at the organizing stages. This is similar to the stage where the National Action Network announced their plans.
