May 26, 2016 (San Diego) this was not unexpected. Donald J Trump has crossed the threshold of pledged delegates to secure the Republican nomination on the first round at the Cleveland convention in July.
He needed 1237 and this morning the Associated Press gave him 1238. This is important since it signals to the party that he is the presumptive nominee. It also makes any talk of a brokered convention go away.
Earlier in the year this was possible. With the suspension of the rest of the campaigns,Trump has accelerated his delegate count.
