May 28, 2016 (San Diego) While we have done the coverage of the Trump protest outside, there is a reason we were not inside. We requested media credentials as soon as we knew the rally was coming to town. The Trump campaign likes to have a very controlled environment, and they denied those credentials late Thursday night. We were not the only media outlet that had credentials denied.
This is a private event, so technically they can deny credentials since the First Amendment does not cover a private event. It is only about the government. That said, we leave this as a commentary on how a Trump presidency might look like, given that Trump has also said that he is willing to loosen libel rules to ease lawsuits against journalists.
We are including those so readers are aware of this. We prefer to cover all these rallies, since this is critical for the voter. We tried.
