The Stadium is Not Free To Taxpayers

One of Many Conceptual Renderings.

June 15, 2016 (San Diego) Well, wonders never cease. As we read the approved city budget for 2016, the one just signed by the Mayor into law we found this curious line item:

Stadium Consultant Services

The Fiscal Year 2016 Adopted Budget includes the addition of $250,000 in non-personnel expenditures for professional consulting services for stadium planning. The County of San Diego will also contribute $250,000. This funding will be used to engage outside consultants to assist in developing possible stadium financing and development options and provide advice to both governing bodies.

We know that Mayor Kevin Faulconer has not made his mind on this. And we also know the county is still deciding what to do, and that signatures were turned. in. But deep in the budget, the city has budgeted $500,000 dollars to get specialists to tell them how to proceed. It was also curious that the line item did not include the Convention Center.

These are the kinds of things that make you go hmm… after all if the city is not fully convinced, is this just prudent spending, or a waste of tax payer funds?

Oh and yes, we will have a lot more to say about the budget. This was just a line item that caught our attention. Incidentally, given the size of the budget, that be $ 3,275,073,254, literally this is not even the change you find in the sofa. But pennies do add up. We will have a lot more to say about that budget in the near future. This one just caught our eye.
