Hypodermic Needles/Sharps

Sharps are defined as hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, lancets, and other devices that are used to penetrate the skin for the delivery of medications derived from a household. Sharps are to be placed in approved containers.

Waste Management has authorized containers at their Buyback Center in El Cajon for Santee residents to drop off their sharps free of charge. The Buyback Center is located at 925 O’Connor Street, located just southwest of the intersection of Bradley Avenue and Johnson Avenue.  Residents can transport these items in their own approved containers to this location. They must be disposed of in an appropriate container that can be purchased at any drug store. Waste Management is available Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. Waste Management employees are not authorized or allowed to handle sharps.

Also, the Sheriff’s Department sub-station located at 8811 Cuyamaca Street, Santee has a bin in their front lobby that residents can use to dispose of prescription medications.
