Trump Declares War on the Free Press

Feb 17, 2017 (San Diego) This is serious. The President of the United States has declared the fourth estate an enemy of the state. We said that we would not magnify his tweets, but this one, we have to. Mostly, none would believe a president would say this.

This is extremely serious. It marks another step towards a totalitarian state. During his campaign rallies, starting in Cleveland, there was a term used by some of his supporters, one with a very long, tarnished, history: “Lugenpresse,” lying press.

This will play very well with his base. They love him for taking on the press. They love what he is doing, not realizing that they are walking down a very dark path. This is also what a fascist leader does. this is one of the early steps, to discredit any institution that will take on the leader. In the United States, the founding fathers put freedom of the press ahead of bearing arms for a reason. A democracy requires an informed and educated citizenry.

There is a pattern to this. One that should make anybody who loves this country very nervous. So now the press has been removed from just an opposition party that should shut up, to an enemy institution.

If you think this is isolated, it is not. The White House was considering using National Guard Troops in immigration roundups. The White House has denied this, but early drafts don’t lie. And later they admitted it was real.

There is more. Why did the president hold a press conference where he told an Orthodox Jewish reporter to sit down, and a black reporter to arrange a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus? Those will also play well with his base, but the conference was not chaotic and was not an accident. It was part of this effort to paint the press as an enemy of the people. This was planned.

The campaign rallies are meant to set an environment where his core supporters will rally to the cause. They are part of the disruption strategy used by the White House. They are also meant to keep the boss in an environment where he shines, and where nobody questions him.

There is more, are we having a purge in the State Department? This is coming from CBS News.

Much of seventh-floor staff, who work for the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources and the Counselor offices, were told today that their services were no longer needed.

These staffers in particular are often the conduit between the secretary’s office to the country bureaus, where the regional expertise is centered. Inside the State Department, some officials fear that this is a politically-minded purge that cuts out much-needed expertise from the policy-making, rather than simply reorganizing the bureaucracy.

This is not the first layoff either. It looks like they are clearing the decks from all top layers of the administration, removing career employees. How long until we have purges in every department, education, EPA, Labor, Department of Justice? There is a reason why we have civil protection for workers

Congress has reinstated the Holman rule, this is via ThinkProgress, the best explanation we could find. You ask what is that. Here:

The Holman rule, named after the congressman who first proposed it in 1876, was nixed by Congress in 1983. The rule, now reinstated for 2017, gives any lawmaker the power to offer amendments to appropriations bills that could, legislatively, fire any federal employee or cut their pay down to $1 dollar, if the lawmaker so chooses.

What we are facing is a method to assure they will only have party loyalists in place. The reason why the civil service got protections was to avoid this system of patronage that exists in totalitarian states. So are we doing to have party cadres working in government, and if you are deemed disloyal, better walk away? Or worst, will we see the worst of police states?

This is coming from one of the many alternative government twitter accounts, so confirming this is hard to do, but the analysis is right on. Why we are including it.
