Trump Claims Obama Wiretapped: Offers no Evidence

March 4, 2017 (San Diego) President Donald Trump took to Twitter overnight and claimed that he was wiretapped during the campaign.

He offered no evidence to back up this claim. This claim seems to be coming from both Breitbart News and a timeline that radio host Mark Levin put together, using the New York Times and Washington Post reporting as his sources.

A Barack Obama spokesperson has said this did not happen. This is according to CNN.

Asked about Trump’s tweets on Saturday, a former senior US official with direct knowledge of investigations by the Justice Department under the Obama administration denied there was any such investigation of Trump or that his phones were tapped.
“This did not happen. It is false. Wrong,” the former official said.
There is no context or proof from the White House. However, this is happening in the context of a much larger investigation into the role the Russians might have had in the election. So far General Michael Flynn had to step down as National Security Advisor after it emerged that he called the Russian ambassador before the president was sworn in, which might be a violation of the Logan Act.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is currently embattled after denying any meetings with Russians as part of the campaign. There is an open question whether he perjured himself, or he misunderstood the question. He has recused himself in any investigation pertaining the Russians.
