Two other victims are in critical condition, the rest are reportedly in stable condition. Peter Selis, 49, was identified as the shooter. He is apparently a resident of the complex.
There is no motive yet, but 7 out of the 8 victims were Black and one Hispanic. They were taken to different area hospitals, where they are being treated.
Chief Shelley Zimmerman said that three of her officers were directed by ABLE, the police helicopter, and engaged the suspect, as he was reloading. The officers engaged him and gunfire was exchanged. The shooter was shot by officers, and he died.
Chief Zimerman was asked if this was a hate crime. She said that at this moment they are still working on the motive, as well as any other aspects of the shooting. She has asked members of the public to help them and give the department any recording they may have, or if they were witnesses to this event.
