June 19, 2017 (San Diego) The San Diego City Council voted to put the Soccer City project on the regular 2018 November ballot. With this, the Soccer City development will have to wait to see this hit the ballot.
This probably means that the next round of expansion teams for the Major League Soccer league will not go to San Diego. However, if the voters approve this project in 2018, it could do such in the final round.
FS Investors, the group behind the project, has said that putting this on the November 2018 ballot, it will mean the failure of the project. However, this also means that while a special election has been funded, there are no items for a special election.
