July 3, 2017 (San Diego) The California Highway Patrol has released the 2017 statistics, (so far). This year there are less driving under the influence (DUI) arrests statewide. In 2016 there were 673 and this year the running tally is 640.
However in 2016 there were 12 fatalities and this year the tally, so far is at 17.
For San Diego County the DUI arrests are also less, There were 42 in 2016, and so far there have been 37 arrests. We have one fatality, there were none last year.
Notwithstanding the numbers are lower, the holiday weekend is not over.
Police agencies, not just the CHP, are going to be enforcing DUI laws, and the Sherriffs and other agencies will have checkpoints over the whole weekend.
If you drink, don’t drive. The live you might save is yours. Take a taxi, use Uber or Lyft, or public transportation. Alternatelivey have a friend drive you. It is not worth the risk,
