Bannon Out: The White House in Chaos

August 17, 2017 (San Diego) Chief White House Strategist Steve Bannon is out of the White House. Depending on which version you read, he was either fired this morning, or he resigned in August. Presumably, this is part of the effort by White House Chief f Staff John Kelly wants discipline. If there is one thing Bannon has not done, is show discipline. If there is anything President Donald Trump does not like, is anybody getting more press than he does. Bannon has, and he was given his walking papers.

Now that he is out, he told. The Weekly Standard:

The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over…

…“On August 7th , I talked to [Chief of Staff John] Kelly and to the President, and I told them that my resignation would be effective the following Monday, on the 14th,” he said. “I’d always planned on spending one year. General Kelly has brought in a great new system, but I said it would be best. I want to get back to Breitbart.”

He is back at Breitbart News. The outlet, home to the White Nationalist movement, posted that he is back as Executive Chairman. According to Breitbart:

“The populist-nationalist movement got a lot stronger today,” said Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow. “Breitbart gained an executive chairman with his finger on the pulse of the Trump agenda.”

Breitbart News CEO and President Larry Solov agreed.

“Breitbart’s pace of global expansion will only accelerate with Steve back,” said Solov. “The sky’s the limit.”

What drove Bannon out today? The American Prospect interview was likely the proximal cause. This man undermined the president. What was strange is that Bannon knew that he was on the record, in spite of his protests. Could this have been an engineered off-ramp? That is possible.

What is going on in the White House is a battle, Machiavellian if you will, between what Bannon calls the nationalist base, and the globalists. Jared Kushner, the son in law of the President, has a lot of power and it has been rumored that he was at war for control of the White House.

The stage has been set for a battle, now fought with Bannon, who will be meaning the ramparts at Breitbart.

This piece, from two days ago, in American Greatness, speaks to the upcoming war.

There has been an ongoing battle—a war really—to undermine the president and overturn the election. The campaign of character assassination waged against Bannon is one of the front’s in that war. But neither Bannon nor even Trump are the real target. The war is against the 63 million people who voted for Trump and, more importantly, his agenda. These forgotten Americans had been cowed into silence or tricked into supporting candidates who sold them out as soon as they arrived in Washington for years. But in 2016 they woke up and voted for a pro-America and pro-American agenda. They wanted a candidate who would change the way Washington works because Washington is broken. It is parochial, self-serving, corrupt, and heedless of the rights and interests of average Americans. If you’re not connected to the courtier class you’re out of luck.

The president’s political enemies both Democrats and Republicans believe that if they destroy Bannon they can alienate the president from his base which will see it as a betrayal of what they voted for. It will leave the president more isolated in the White House with fewer people who were with him during the campaign and who believe in his agenda of reducing foreign military adventurism, moral imperialism, a pro-worker trade policy, and a pro-citizen immigration policy.

Incidentally, Trump is no longer at the forefront to this. Bannon has taken on the mantle. At least this is what Bannon is telling us.

Joshua Green has also tweeted that Bannon is going to war on behalf of the President. This idea that the establishment, the deep state, is doing this, is not new. He will fight for that nationalist ideology.

There is a pattern to this.

What we are seeing with Bannon is also what we saw with the business councils. Bannon is claiming he quit. However, his reaction is more like that of somebody who just got fired.

If you are asking yourself what now? It is a relevant question. Is this the end? It could be. The president is putting himself in a corner, and I expect him to draw from the same dark corner of his soul from now on. If anybody expects Kelly, or others in the White House, can control the President, I doubt it. That train has left the station

I suspect that Sebastian Gorka and Stephen Miller will lose their jobs soon. Why? The white nationalist faction has likely lost this round, but the war continues. But I expect them to join the troops under Bannon, who is expected to return, in some form, to Breitbart.

I do not expect the president to abandon his views white nationalist views. We are living on the knives edge. I do not say this lightly. The cracks are growing.
