The staff here were so nice! We are American and visiting Vienna and stopped in for a quick bite before we head to the Leopold Museum. The waiter was incredibly sweet, he speaks so many languages! He didn’t mind explaining everything to us. Food is awesome and they also have traditional Austrian food. However, after a few days of this I literally cannot for more fried food or meat in my tum tum, so I opted out and did the lighter menu. Soup and salad. SO GOOD AND FRESH. Come here!

This was my favorite meal during our time in Austria. Everything about this bistro is awesome: the location (art/museum district), the setting and outside garden area, the atmosphere and adornments inside, and the food, of course. You can just feel, hear, and see the energy of this place, and it only added to the pleasant experience we had here. We were lucky in two parts when we first stepped in. We didn’t have a reservation but it wasn’t a problem, and we were seated in a semi-private and very comfortable booth that allowed us to really feel and witness the vibe here. The menu was intimidating. Everything sounded good and I wanted a bite of it all. I narrowed it down and was kind of set on two different dishes, not really sure which one to choose, but when it came time to order I called an audible. So glad I did because I scored a touchdown with the Tiroler Spinatknödel, a special of the day. These spinach dumplings were served with brown butter, walnuts, and topped with thin slices of Bergkäse (mountain cheese), and a salad on the side. It didn’t look fancy, but the flavors were just perfect: savory and delicious! My wife had ordered the Grammelknödel (dumplings filled with pork cracklings) with sauerkraut which was really good, but we both knew who ordered the better dish this time around. ;o)

We went out of our way to find this restaurant, and we were very happy we did. It is hidden away from the touristy area, near Museumsquartier. Ordered: 1) Smoky bacon with horseradish shavings: 2/5 eh, I would pass on this 2) Dumpling with Crackling Pork: 4/5 omg…this was soo good! My first time eating something like this! 3) Beef Goulash: 3/5 eh, this was okay even though the beef was so soft and tender House bread is included (need to ask), but we were charged for butter when I asked for some to go with my bread…I thought that was strange…

What a gem. Like other reviewers have said, this restaurant has great service and great food. We spent a lovely afternoon out of the sun on the patio enjoying the schnitzel and the dumplings. Would definitely go back.

A nice looking restaurant with a great outdoor area. Unfortunately we walked up, so the only tables available were inside. I had the lamb saddle, which was nicely seasoned along with asparagus. But everything on the plate was totally overcooked, to the point that the asparagus was mushy. If things were cooked correctly, this place might’ve been a 5-star, as the sauce and flavors were nice, along with the great ambiance. Our waitress seemed pretty annoyed to be speaking English to us the whole time, so don’t expect great service.

The food is amazing. Service was awful. We were treated like we were stealing food instead of buying it. I would recommend them for takeaway service. Felt like NYC. Haha! I have been to about 7 restaurants in Vienna, including exclusive ones, and this place has been the only place with terrible service. Really disappointed. Everyone raves about this place and I was sure it would be a highlight of our trip. We got the one lousy waitress with a scowl and bad manners. So sad. I was looking forward to the visit. 🙁 Go to the other restaurants in the MuseumQuartier. The Leopold was excellent and the servers are super nice. Go to the

On our trip to Vienna, this was the place I chose to try some goulash and it didn’t disappoint. It was my first time eating the dish and it was great. Basically tastes like a thicker version of beef stew. Also ordered some fried potatoes and a leek soup. Friendly service, we chatted with our waiter a bit. Really liked the outdoor atmosphere as well.

Coming from California and this is my first time in Vienna and I wanted to try delicious traditional Viennese cuisine. My experience was memorable. The ambiance and food is truly worthy of remembering someday. Kathryn was courteous, amiable and very informative. .

We went here on a Friday night around 7:30pm without a reservation and were lucky to get a table. By 8pm the place was full and I understand why! It’s a lovely, secluded, park-like setting hidden below the street level. Servers were attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding. We had soup, asparagus, goulash and weiner schnitzel. Everything was delicious and attractively presented. If I lived here I’d be here often!

on arrival in Vienna, we didn’t feel like straying too far from the hotel and exploring and asked for a recommendation from the hotel (which, of course, can be risky). but this recommendation was great. it’s in an area with a bunch of restaurants and bars there is outdoor seating and service is very nice. we had potato goulash which was excellent and a guinea hen. the starter was a soft cheese with roasted vegetables I realize after a few days, that beer choices are a bit limited. it’s more of a wine culture. I don’t normally drink much beer but it seems to go better with the food here

A nice, modern restaurant, which offers several Viennese dishes. I decided on the goulash, which is an excellent choice. Very tender pieces of beef in a well-flavored sauce. A small pickle offers a palate cleanser every few bites, which was an amazing touch. I also had a Weissebier with my meal, which complimented it nicely. Might’ve gotten the house beer if I had to do it again. Service is fairly standard for Europe, very quick to get drinks and meal ordered, but had to put in effort to ask for the check. Did not detract from the experience at all.

Soo, Bavarian food doesn’t vary much. If you don’t like meat and potatoes, you’re kindof screwed. After spending all week in Munich and just two days in Vienna, I thought I had run the gamut from very bad to pretty good. However, you must withhold judgment until you’ve had Glacis Beisl. It’s right behind the Museum Quarter, but you need to exit and walk the perimeter in order to find it. Once you do, follow the twinkling lights in. Make sure to sit outside so you get the full experience of lights and trees. Between the two of us, we ordered the dumplings with sauerkraut and pork cracklings to start, which were enormous and sooo tasty and filled us up right away. I ordered the Viennese schnitzel, which was super thin and well breaded, served with a lemon slice that you should use liberally. My friend ordered the goulash, which came out 3x bigger than expected and is definitely more solid than liquid – read, large pieces of meat with sauce as an accompaniment. For dessert, our waiter recommended the semolina dumplings, and I have not been able to stop thinking about this dish since we’ve left Vienna. The soft dumplings contrasted really well with the more textured berries, and it was the perfect balance of sour and sweet. We also ordered half a liter of the house white wine for about 10 Euros – honestly, wine is so cheap in Europe, you should really be drinking it in place of water. Even though we over-ordered (don’t underestimate those dumplings), I would still recommend getting everything we did. These are dishes that you could find elsewhere, but I definitely found my favorites here.

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Monday night at about 5. When we walked in, they said that the tables were all reserved for the night, but that we could have one if we finished before 7. We didn’t plan to stay that long anyway, so we were happy to be seated. I ordered an appetizer plate and a soup (see my photo) which were delicious! The appetizer plate had thinly sliced pork belly garnished with tiny sprigs of thyme and served with beautiful purple potatoes and cooked onions. It was very tasty! I mean, pork belly = lots of fat. It was tender and well seasoned and just so yummy! The clear beef broth soup had two sort of dumplings in it made from polenta, I think. It also had diced carrots in it. The broth was warm and rich and flavorful; it was just what I needed after a day of walking around the city! K. had a dish with two extremely large “dumplings” that had pork something inside. I thought it was pretty good and he loved it! He’ll probably write his own review of the restaurant, too, so read that for his perspective. We were seated quickly, the food came out within a reasonable amount of time, our server was friendly, and the bill came to only 20 euros. That was an amazing price for the quality of the food that we had. I would definitely recommend that you check out this place! Your best bet would probably be to call ahead to make a reservation, just in case!

This place is a great mix of traditional Austrian food and modern gastropub. Traveling with my dad and brother, they want to eat only traditional foods from where we visit, which I’m totally into, but I also miss the exciting new flavors and combinations from my favorite spots back home – so this was the perfect mix. The place is super chic and comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Prices weren’t too terrible, but I don’t really know what is a normal priced meal in Vienna yet. The outside garden is beautiful – definitely go there if it’s nice out. I got the apple-asparagus soup to start which was really good. I couldn’t taste the apple, but the soup was frothy and light but still filling and substantial. My brother got this beef platter that was really juicy and melted in your mouth. It also came with a pretty latke. The waiter recommended the dish as it was our first night in Vienna. My dad got a schnitzel dish, which he seemed to enjoy (but I don’t eat veal so didn’t give it a try). It came with a really fresh salad with beats and potatoes. I got the quinoa, tofu, spinach “pan” which came with a curry sauce. I was expecting a formed pancake type of dish, but it was more of sautéed spinach, tofu, and veggies, mixed with quinoa and a curry sauce on top. Really good even if it wasn’t what I expected. Would definitely recommend this place during your visit to Vienna!

This is most definitely my go to place for amazing food & service! I also love the garden – so quiet and peaceful!

“Our meal was delivered quickly and was delicious – pumpkin soup, goulash and schnitzel.” in 9 reviews

Where to start…beautiful room dressed up for the holidays. The staff were lovely and helpful. First course of foie gras was decadently divine. Every last morsel had. And oh the mains! I had the trout with perfectly crisp skin and mash peas and potatoes. My UK raised dining partner was overjoyed with the black pudding. Dessert put us over the edge. The birthday schnapps were served with a smile.

We didn’t have reservations so we were initially sat at a communal table across from the bar but after we ordered we were moved to a booth. We started with the pumpkin soup and we were served brown bread. The soup was excellent, and had a wonderfully full flavor. The BF ordered the dumplings stuffed with pork cracklings. The pork dumplings were surrounded by sauerkraut; it had a good flavor but the BF thought it was too salty. The dumplings themselves were really good. I ordered the roast goose and it was very good, with a rich sauce. I’ve never had goose before. It came with beets (excellent) and potato dumplings. Parts of the goose was overcooked but since it was a big portion I ate my fill and didn’t get to that part. A nice first meal in Vienna.

This is a good place to come to get traditional Austrian food – they have large, generous portions and the food is quite good. If you want to come here for dinner, make a reservation ahead of time – we tried to come on a Thursday evening and they were all booked up for the evening. We were able to come back the next day for lunch and get a table, but it was pretty crowded and busy. They have a lovely outdoor garden and eating/drinking area which I’m sure is fantastic in the summer. We ended up sharing 2 appetizers and 1 main dish, and we were stuffed – we could have probably done just fine with one appetizer and one main dish, as the appetizers were quite large. Smoked Trout Mousse – I really liked this appetizer and would definitely get it again. There was a good amount of trout mousse (2 balls, each maybe the size of a racquetball), and it came with some lettuce. You can eat this with the complimentary bread they bring for the table, which goes quite well. I’d recommend this and would definitely get this again. Beef Soup with Vegetables & Dumplings (€ 3,80) – This was inexpensive, a large bowl topped with dumplings. The soup was a beef broth and was flavorful but not too salty, and it was perfect for a cold day. Everyone seemed to be getting the pumpkin cream soup around me, so that must be a popular soup. Schnitzel with side salad (€ 19,20) – We ordered schnitzel because you can’t come to Vienna and not get schnitzel at least once. The veal was very thin and it had a lot of breading (as most schnitzel has) – it was good and huge (2 people can probably share this). I liked the salad that came with this – it had potatoes, beets, and lettuce on top with a mustardy sauce. Overall, large portions – authentic food and crowd (it seemed like there were a lot of locals here), and reasonable prices. I would give this 4.5 stars if you’re looking for traditional Austrian food. There aren’t a ton of healthy or vegetarian options on the menu, and I wouldn’t come back here every week or every month if I lived in Vienna since they don’t seem to change the menu too often. If you’re visiting Vienna, this is a good pick for lunch if you want to walk-in, or for dinner if you can make a reservation ahead of time. The most popular dishes it looked like everyone was ordering was the pumpkin cream soup, the dumplings over cabbage, the trout with potatoes, and the schnitzel.
