I brought in an old, but very nice lamp, that needed a repair. The gal at the desk quoted me the standard price for the repair in the shop, but then took a closer look at it and said, “You know, I think I can fix this – it is pretty simple” Which she did (and it was – we are numbskulls for not being able to figure it out ourselves…). Fixed it right on the spot and no charge! I’d come back here in a heart beat!
Revised review. Appreciated manager reaching out to me to try to resolve my issue, almost immediately after my initial review. I recommend calling beforehand and discussing what your particular needs are. Save yourself a drive by understanding what they are willing to do before getting in the car. Should Harold’s not have a lamp to your taste, I would still recommend considering creating something cool for yourself with parts from antiquelampsupply.com and/or comparison shopping for repairs or new lamps at Hansen’s Lamp & Shade (10706 Lake City Way).
The shade department at Harold’s Lighting is one of the largest in the state and offers both new in-stock shades as well as custom made-to- order shades.
A relative’s toddler stood on our pool table and broke a glass lampshade (a bulb cover on the bottom of the fixture). The fixture has been discontinued so I thought it would be difficult to find a replacement. I worked with a very helpful person at Harold’s, corresponding by email. She was trying to track one down. It turned out to be an unsuccessful endeavor. A few months later, I took another look at the manufacturer’s website. They had a new fixture that had the same size shade. I went to Harold’s to place the order. The person who “helped” this time couldn’t have been more rude and unhelpful. I was willing to pay whatever I had to to get the part. His first question: “Did you buy the fixture here”. My answer: I don’t know. It was in the house when I bought it. Him: “I’m going to have to charge you way more than list price for this since you didn’t buy the fixture here. You probably don’t want to buy it from me”. Me: “Gee, thanks. You didn’t even ask if I’m willing to pay your price, but I think I’ll be going elsewhere”. I called Seattle Lighting. Over the phone, they took my credit card and ordered the part. Reasonable price, no hostile attitude. Screw Harold’s. Overpriced, rude, obnoxious. Don’t give them your business unless you enjoy being treated like an annoyance.
So helpful in finding the exact shade or lighting that I need.
I had stopped in a couple of weeks ago. They were extremely helpful and answered all my questions. I lost the slip they gave me of recommended electricians so I called back and they read off those names for me to copy. The guy on the phone also gave me advice on how I could replace my transformer and if they had a replacement unit in the back. Thanks for the great service!
Amazing people. Fantastic customer service. Can fix anything or find the perfect fixture for you.
“They even gave me a new harp for nothing.I expect to have to leave the lamp, come back in a week or so, and pay a lot to have it repaired, so you can imagine that I was more than thrilled.” in 3 reviews

I brought in a Mid Century Modern small, teak based lamp that had been nearly destroyed by movers. Although not large enough to be very expensive, the nice apartment size of the lamp was what attracted me to it in the first place and like teak, how can you say no, with original lampshade. Harrold’s put new life in it, hopefully it will last another 50 years whether I do or not. When I dropped it off, nothing was too small, even what color of cord I wanted. The young man when I picked up was so attentive, even though he was clearly on his own. We are so quick to throw things out nowadays, it was nice to have such good, old fashioned service to go with a really old lamp! Things can be repaired!
The repair department at Harold’s offers full service manufacturing, restoration and repair. We repair and rewire existing lamps and we can also make just about anything into a lamp, from wine bottles and vases to musical instruments, figurines, you name it and we’ve probably done it.
Harold’s Lighting is the only place I go for lamp repairs. They offer great repair service and have an excellent selection of shades, bulbs, and accessories. I’ve tried other places, but none compare to Harold’s. My first visit hooked me back in 2008 when I took a chandelier in to get rewired. How surprising it was to find that all the candle covers had been replaced and painted by hand to give the illusion of really ancient tapers with wax dripping down their sides. And that was in addition to giving it a deep clean; it was a 20 dollar yard sale find, but dirty. You’ll see in the photos that 10 years later, my chandelier still looks like a million bucks. More recently, a marble pillar lamp got repaired, and it now has that luscious brown cloth cord (okay, so I splurged a bit). But for 80 bucks, I got top-of-the-line materials and a great cleaning job. This lamp looks like it was just stolen from out of Versailles. The basic rewire job with regular cord is $65, and with the fancy yummy cord upgrade, repair is around $80, but it’s totally worth it, especially if you are trying to spruce up an antique. Harold’s Lighting has rewired many lamps in my house. I even have one in the shop now, with about 8 more to go. Harold’s Lighting is the one and only lamp shop for me.
Harold’s is wonderful! Super friendly and helpful staff who have assisted me with choosing the right lampshade for a number of vintage lamps. The last time I was there they also rewired my lamp while I waited. Great service, beautiful products!
Best customer service ever! Ryan (employee) was very friendly and helpful! Instead of telling me how much it would cost to diagnose my problem, he said “let me check something first” he put some light bulbs into my lamp and plugged it in and “bam”! The lights went on…he also threw in a light switch handle in that he got out of one of the drawers. Best of all he said no charge! I can’t wait to go home and set up for my wife…she actually told me to just throw it out and get a new one! Like I always say… perseverance! Thanks again Ryan! I will definitely go back to Harolds!!!
We are always up to something fun and creative!! Let us turn your family heirloom into a lamp that will impress anyone.
Harold’s is great! I came in with a table lamp that was not working. Ryan did a quick test and found out that the fix was an easy one, so he went to the back and came back shortly thereafter with a working lamp! I appreciated his service and friendly demeanor very much. I will definitely be going back to Harold’s for my future lighting needs!
Love these guys. Great staff, very knowledgeable and personable. Nice selection of lamps and other lighting fixtures and a fantastic selection lamp shades too.
The staff at Harold’s is very helpful. They have a large selection of lightning and are knowledgeable about a wide variety of fixtures. I needed help to change a bulb in an unusual fixture and they handled it quickly and didn’t make me feel foolish. Much appreciated. My go-to lighting store.

Awesome staff!! Friendly, helpful. A really great store. Check it out.
I’ve been here before and had good experiences and like the variety they have in the store. However, the light bulb I bought with the lamp was not quite how the sales person described it would look in our space. I attempted to exchange it for another and was rudely told sorry no receipt and I quote “I can’t do anything for you.” I assumed they would gladly exchange it or give me store credit. He did not even offer to help me find another light bulb that would work for the lamp they sold me. I told the sales person that I guess they could keep it since I have no use for it. He quickly stashed it under the counter and stared at me while I pursued their bulb selection. During the checkout process they asked if I had been here before and found me in their system. So why do they have a system with my information if it isn’t for their sales and store purchases. Disappointed in the experience I had this time. Will probably checkout other spots next time I need a lamp, light bulb, or judging from other reviews repairs.
I brought in a vintage lamp which I had purchased without a shade. Harold’s has just about any shape and size of shade that you can think of and I got plenty of help from the staff choosing the right one. Maybe a little pricier than what I might’ve found elsewhere, but definitely worth the cost considering the service, quality and the fact that I bought directly from the people who made the shade!

In our showroom we also display many of our own handcrafted lamps & fixtures repurposed from antique things like Japanese vases & figurines or vintage glass made into ceiling fixtures. Bring us your one of a kind antique object and our skilled custom department will transform it for you into something that brings you light!
My very favorite lighting store around! I brought in a lamp that needed a chain reattached…..and they fixed it in about 2 minutes……for FREE! I highly recommend this place for all of you lighting needs– something new, or a repair. You guys are the Best!
Our beautiful brick and mortar building is conveniently located in Seattle’s historic Wallingford district. We boast a wide selection of unique lighting pieces that you won’t find anywhere else, along with a huge selection of lamp shades.
This place was great..I worked with a very helpful sales girl who was very patient while I asked dozens of questions. She swapped out countless shades, harps and decorative screw toppers (don’t know the official name, ha ha) and helped me to piece together the perfect look for my vintage lamp. I found the perfect shade for me ready-made, but it’s also nice to know that they make all of their shades in-store and offered custom creations as well. I’ll definitely stop in for all my future lighting needs! P.S. Also, so nice they offer the 20% off coupon for Yelp check-ins!! Don’t forget to use it!
This is my 2nd time shopping at Harold’s. I’m always impressed with their 1:1 service and quality fixtures. I’m extremely happy with my purchases and highly recommend this family-owned business.
I purchased two brass lamps from Harold’s 40 years ago. Harold’s has given me outstanding service throughout the years. I was told I could wash the shades if needed and told how to do so without damaging them. I have sent the shades to Harold’s to be handmade three times as the heat of the light bulbs will disintegrate the silk. Each time they were made beautifully by their workers….. Recently I have moved back into the area. My husband and I have found the selection of merchandise to be excellent the service unmatched and we will continue to shop Harold’s.
Extremely knowledgeable staff, friendly atmosphere with a great selection.

Great customer service and knowledge. I appreciate your coste effective and quick repair service.
Omg- this place is ran by rude people. I came in and asked for parts to fix my lamp. Instead, this young men threw me with “No! We dont fix lamp and no parts available here!” I have not even finished explaining the problem. So bluntly unprofessional! I went to Seattle Lighting, they treated with respect and even got free parts!! Never ever go to this place!
Exceptional, friendly, and good-natured service for even a small transaction involving an obscure bulb that elicited only shrugs from a couple of hardware stores. However in the long term walking into Harold’s may be a more expensive proposition for me because their lovely collection of fixtures and lamps has me redesigning my house. Thanks, and see you again soon!
I went into this store yesterday to see whether they carried a lamp part I need. I had my baby with me and she was fast asleep in her stroller, which was covered with a blanket. A woman working at the store came up to me and asked me if I needed help, but before I could answer she asked “wait, is your baby sleeping?”. I said “yes and if she wakes up I can leave” to which she said “OK” and then proceeded to help me. What would she have said if my baby wasn’t sleeping? And if you have to ask whether she is sleeping then why does it matter? I felt very unwelcome and will not go back to this store.
