Open plan. A dining area open to the kitchen often replaced the concept of having a kitchen table and a separate formal dining room. Within these large open plans, designers found ways to delineate the dining room.
An area rug grounds this dining area; the light fixture helps to define the space as well, but its clear glass allows it to blend right in with the rest of the rooms.

window and door of the family-dining areas are worth noting.
The most common type of lighting in a basement is recessed. But, like in the rest of your home, the lighting should be layered, with ambient light augmented by task lighting and accent lighting. Pendants are a great source of task lighting, as seen here in the pool table and bar.
The kitchen addition connects with the rear green space and floods the room with natural light through large horizontally banded, counter height windows. Formaldehyde-free painted cabinetry with countertops made of resin coated recycled paper are easily maintained and environmentally sound. AFTER: A consultation with Anna Kulgren of Optic Verve persuaded Tucker to go with a saturated hue in the dining room. “I love this color,” she says. “It has absolutely transformed this space.” She adds, “I host Thanksgiving and hold dinner parties and political fundraising get-togethers in this dining room.
This table expands, and the room accommodates it easily.”.

This small kitchen uses an all-white palette to feel bigger. A white refrigerator would have worked fine. Using white shaker style panels to match the cabinetry makes this kitchen feel more thoughtful and loved.

Nothing makes a room like light, light, light. Using lamps in the kitchen is something we haven’t seen often, but it’s such a great idea if you have the space. The choice of silver lamps is so effective here, lending the kitchen a hint of glamour.

Here is a link to the dining table chandelier – Troy Lighting Edison Series. …
This kind of lighting looks best in a kitchen or dining area. Or both. Here, the homeowner has Edison bulbs housed in glass conical mini pendants over the kitchen island and in a more formal pendant over the dining area.
You can have this look by finding clear glass pendants and putting in filament light bulbs where the standard incandescent bulbs go.

Cutting edge – Island benches are still on-trend, but variations are starting to pop up. The chairs and table in this kitchen are reminiscent of the eat-in kitchens of the old days … but with an ultra-modern twist.
The country feel of the home continues in the expanded galley kitchen. The wood dining table already sat in the nook at the end of the room, and architect Anne Sneed suggested building a reclaimed-wood banquette around it.
Two wood hutches in a custom stain break up the white kitchen and the more rustic breakfast nook, while still tying in with the overall theme of the room and home.
This kitchen was formerly a dark paneled, cluttered, divided space with little natural light. By eliminating partitions and creating a more functional, open floorplan, as well as adding modern windows with traditional detailing, providing lovingly detailed built-ins for the clients extensive collection of beautiful dishes, and lightening up the color palette we were able to create a rather miraculous transformation. The wide plank salvaged pine floors, the antique french dining table, as well as the Galbraith & Paul drum pendant and the salvaged antique glass monopoint track pendants all help to provide a warmth to the crisp detailing. Renovation/Addition. Rob Karosis PhotographyI like several features here 1. Floor to ceiling hutch style cabinetry. With this feature there would be no need for cabinets above the counters. The drawers could house the plates and dishes among other things. 2. The open shelving below the window for larger items and books could also use baskets for storage as well. 3. An added feature could be toekick drawers for storage i.e. tools, trays, etc. IDEA: It would be a perfect score to find an old thiftstore cabinet to use. – webuser_15841899145

A line of pendant lights. A good alternative to one chandelier over a long table is a line of pendant lights. In this Spanish Colonial-style dining room, glowing spheres dance above the table at different heights for a contemporary twist.

If your kitchen is part of an open-plan space, dimmable lights are a must. They can give you the perfect lighting for preparing food, but can be turned down to a soft glow when you dine, entertain or are simply not using the kitchen but still need some lighting.
